A Sad Day...

First Sydney Pollack now this...

Harvey Korman passed away today...

Fuck...all the good ones are leaving us...

Today's Post...

Yes, this is today's post...

Not much to say...just been working on some creative projects...I have a big one I've been working, but won't say right now exactly what it is...

Just been doing homework...I have a 10 to 15 page research paper to write...I love those things (he said with sarcastic contempt)...I'm writing it about something that interests me (which I suppose is half the point) so it won't be completely draining.

Other than that, not much happenin'...welcome to my life...

I'll talk to ya soon...

Have a Goal, Man!

So, I joined this thing called Blog 365...it's a project where you have to blog for a whole year, everyday...I don't think you get a prize, just a sense of accomplishment...
I actually joined last Friday, but I forgot I was going out of town, so it didn't officially start until yesterday...

It'll give me something to shoot for...I'm trying to give myself small goals to achieve just for my own personal satisfaction and to try and give myself some motivation to get stuff done...

So, everyday, I'll post something new, funny stuff I find, things from my day, etc. So, stay tuned and lemme know you stopped by!

Excelsior!

I Don't Wanna Touch Your Masturbation...

So, I'm back from my little mini-vacation...not really a vacation for me, more for Rose...we'll call it a "getaway"....
Anyhoo...It was a nice trip...We went to Pt. Townsend and stayed at the Belmont Inn...walked around town, did some shopping, etc. Then we went to Ft. Warden, this cool former army base during WW2...we walked around the gun battery on the coast...it was pretty impressive...I can imagine what it looked like when it was operational...

We sat and watched the sunset on the beach looking out at the San Juan Islands...pretty impressive looking...

Then the next day, we went to Ft. Flagler on Marrowstone Island in Puget Sound...that place was pretty cool...we went on a hike along the beach looking for the numerous gun batteries left over...I believe there were about 6 of them all on one island...but, we missed the trail that takes you near them...we were on the beach, they were all on the bluff above us...so, next time we're gonna find the trail...lol

We had a little picnic and grilled some hot dogs over hot coals...it was nice...

We took some pictures which will be posted soon...

All-in-all, a nice, adventurous weekend...I look forward to doing it again soon...

Townsend...looks like a pretty nice place...should be a good weekend...I need to buy a new sketchbook...the sunny weather has gotten the creative juices flowing again, so I need to jot down those ideas before I forget...

I shall return on Tuesday and tell ya all about it and post pics and whatnot...

Enjoy the weekend and make sure you remember those who died so you can go outta town this weekend.

Indiana Jones Strikes Back!

I'm sure you've been hearing all the whiny fanboys ranting about how terrible the movie is...well, that's their opinion and they're entitled to it.
But, it certainly is a shame that they can't just sit back and enjoy this movie for what it is...a damn fun movie to watch.

Is it a perfect movie? No, of course not. Is it a good movie? Hell yes. Would I see it again? You betcha.

First off, this ain't yo' daddy's Indiana Jones. This is Indy in a new era. It's Indy right smack dab in the middle of the Cold War. He's a victim of McCarthyism. It's Indy in the atomic age. It's Indy being awesome again.
This movie is very different from the other films, but it certainly deserves to be put alongside them. I would liken this one to Temple of Doom for its sheer crazyness and serial feel.

I won't really go into details about the story, but I will comment on some elements that I've noticed people have taken issue with. First of all, it's nice to see Indy going after something other than a religious artifact. He is an archaeologist, first and foremost. Archaeologists study artifacts. They uncover the history of the artifact and study its origins. No matter what it is. That's what they do. Indy just happens to come across some crazy shit most of the time. This one is no exception.
Personally, I like this whole angle. It takes Indy to something new.

I really loved the opening of the film. By far, my favorite opening of them all. Also, my favorite ending. The last scene is, if this indeed is the last film, a perfect end to the series.

Yes, there are some silly moments and I can understand how someone may cringe at them, but to hate the whole movie because of a few silly moments? That, my friend, is silly. They've mentioned some "far-fetched" moments. Haven't all the films had far-fetched moments? Even the precious Raiders.
People often forget, these films are homages to the serials of the 1930's (Much like the Star Wars films). Most of those films featured events that were pretty outlandish, but never took themselves too seriously. They were just there for people who loved escapism. That's what Indy is.

Everyone wants to compare this to Raiders of the Lost Ark and that really isn't fair. It's a different movie. That movie was something special that probably could never be duplicated. You just want to see the characters again and see what messes they can get into and that's what we've gotten. And they were all fun.

I've also heard people bitching about the amount of CGI in this movie. I really don't understand this hatred for CGI. We've lived it for nigh on 20 years and people are STILL complaining about it. Actually, I've noticed they only complain about it when it's a sequel to a movie that originally used old-school effects. Star Wars and, now, Indy. Get over it. Those films used just as many effects, just using different tools. It really is a Catch-22. If they had used old blue screen models and matte paintings, people would say it looks fake. If they use CGI, it's too much CGI. It really irks me. I'm a big fan of CGI and these movies would be very difficult to do without it. Sure, they can over do it sometimes and one can argue that for this picture, but it's really a lame excuse to hate a movie.

Well, that's my two cents. All in all, I freaking love this movie. I wanna see it again. Go see it, take the kids. It's rated PG-13, but I have no idea why. It's less violent than Raiders.

Welcome back, Indy. We missed you.

Ah, To Be a Geek...

So, I had a dream last night that I was shopping for action figures. GI Joe in particular. The store I went to had like 5 aisles of GI Joe figures of all kinds. But, I couldn't decide which ones to buy.

This isn't the first time I've had a dream like this.

I'm Still Alive, I Swear...

Yeah, it's been a few weeks since my last post. I've been a tad busy with life and such...I'll try to recap in no particular order...

My citizen's academy has come to an end. It was a good month and a half...lots of fun, very informative and I've realized that I don't think I could do the job of a cop...those guys are tough, sharp and really know what they're doing...I have a whole new kind of respect for them.
I did get tazered though...that was actually kinda fun...and I just happen to have a video of it...

Last Saturday, we got to drive the police cars and go to the firearms simulator...those police cars really have some get up...so make sure not to try and outrun them because you probably won't be able to...and the firearms simulator...well, let's just say I need more practice...I guess all those years of video games really have no practical application...but, I'll keep playing anyway...

Tonight is the graduation dinner...I believe (read I hope) we get a little certificate and we do get a special prize for having perfect attendance...should be fun...and we're all pitching in and giving the officers Starbucks gift cards and a little plaque with our names and group photo...should be fun...

I'm going to put in an application to volunteer with the police department...I think that would be fun...

We did another round of photography...I'll post those as soon as I get around to it...

I've been making a few bucks here and there doing things I can't talk about...so I'm saving up for a PS3 or a 360...I'm leaning more towards the 360...though it's about $200 more because I'm not getting that BS bare bones system...that just seems like a waste...

So, that's pretty much what I've been up to lately...
I'll be sure to keep up on the updating more regularly...

Peace out, home slices...
